The Strathmore Spartans High School boys’ soccer team was hopeful to get a key victory on May 25 before heading off to Cochrane to take part in zones on the weekend.
Head coach Kaitrin McDonnell was impressed with her team’s work ethic in preparation for the zones.
“The boys looked strong at practice this week,” said McDonnell, in an e-mail interview. “We were fighting for a win on Monday to have solid momentum heading into zones.”
She added that having strong defense at zones would be crucial in carrying the team.
“Our defense is solid and they hold the line and everyone is playing very well in their positions and have a much stronger game sense,” said McDonnell.
There will be some strategies that will hopefully be used effectively.
“We’ve been working a lot on throw-in strategy and our corner kicks to take advantage of opportunities throughout the game,” she said. “We’ll need to communicate on the field and come together as a team. I’m looking to Lane Anderson and our Captain Darion Sandri for their continuous leadership and presence on the field.”
The Spartans will be in Cochrane for zones on May 29-30.
