Rosebud Lions will host a car rally for friends and family members of all ages, Saturday, Aug. 8.
Peter Lauridsen of the Rosebud Lions said everyone – including those who live outside Rosebud – is welcome. The Lions’ traditional summertime fundraiser has usually been a golf tournament, targeted primarily to adults. This year, he said, they wanted to include people of all ages, so they decided to host a car rally.
“We’re trying to tailor it to families and hoping it will be fun for younger participants as well as the adults,” he said.
The day of the car rally begins at 11 a.m. with brunch at Rosebud Memorial Hall. Around 1 p.m., organizers will begin sending cars out on the three to four-hour drive through local scenic sites.
“We’ll hand out instructions to each participating vehicle and what they have to do is follow the instructions which give you the route of the rally. Along the way there’s questions or little activities, things you have to do to get points,” Lauridsen said.
A steak supper, prepared by former Rosebud chef Pat Murphy, will be served at 6 p.m., followed by live and silent auctions. Auction items include a Calgary Stampeders jersey autographed by Drew Tate, and a Rosebud Getaway Package with theatre tickets and an overnight Rosebud stay. Lauridsen said local artists and businesses have always been generous in donating small and large items to Rosebud Lions fundraisers.
The Rosebud Lions will direct the funds raised to local community projects. In the past, they’ve helped establish and build the Rosebud museum, raise the fire hall, and install an elevator in the community hall.
Tickets are $100 per car, which includes two free supper tickets. Supper tickets alone are $25. Children under 8 eat free. Contact Peter (403-334-2378) or Pat (403-820-4251) or any Rosebud Lions member for tickets.
