Back by popular demand, Hope Bridges is once again offering residents the opportunity to make the most out of their devices through their workshop Photography Tips. With participants having learned how to take great photos on any camera last year, ranging from your iPhone to an advanced camera, spots are quickly filling up.
The number of participants signed so far has already surpassed last year’s turnout. The workshop, taught by Rockyford resident Kenzie Kettenbach, encourages residents to learn how to take beautiful pictures regardless of their skill level and equipment.
“The Photography Tips is for anybody,” said Wanda Reinholdt, Hope Bridges coordinator. “Photography Tips is not about becoming a great photographer, because there is a lot of technology and technical stuff that goes with that. Our Photography Tips is very different. It’s about using what you have. You don’t have to go out and grab a camera. You can bring your phone, and it can be your flip phone. If that’s what you have to take pictures with, fine. “
This year, the workshop will be held in Strathmore on Saturday, while another session will be offered in Rosebud on June 6. With five individuals already registered to take part, Reinholdt said spots are still available in both sessions.
Kettenbach, who has a diploma in photography, is seeking more input from residents this time around. With a focus on camera operation and composition, she said even knowing how to best use your automatic settings can improve your photos drastically.
“I think photography is a really great art for people to get involved with, because there are not as many barriers to producing something you’re happy with,” Kettenbach said. “Because it’s a push of a button, you just work on composition. It’s a lot more accessible to people.”
Last year, many of the cameras at the workshop were used on automatic settings. However, according to Kettenbach, the settings are beneficial for teaching the participants who might get too overwhelmed with learning the technical aspects of photography, such as F-stops and shutter speeds.
Hope Bridges is offering both courses for $60, and a single session for $35.
Photography Tips is open to all adults at any skill level, and will be held in Strathmore on May 30 from 1-4 p.m. at Hope Bridges.
