The Langdon Fieldhouse is a popular place for functions and is seeking expansion to accommodate more people.
The Langdon Community Association (LCA) is looking for input as to who would like to see an expansion on the 100-seat Fieldhouse.
“The Hamlet of Langdon has a wide variety of programming, but not a lot of space to run them. (The) programs are run out of the Fieldhouse, schools, Boulder Creek Golf Event Centre and residential homes,” said Shauna Baerwaldt, LCA president. “There is a definite need for additional meeting places. There has been a number of studies and surveys taken and they all indicate this as well.”
She admits that with the high occupancy rate in the Fieldhouse, there is not enough time in a day and room to host multiple events.
“The Fieldhouse is booked every day of the week with things like preschool, exercise classes, youth groups and scouts,” said Baerwaldt. “(As a result), groups have been turned away because there isn’t enough time in the day for everyone to be able to use the facility.”
There has been interest, not only in Langdon but also in surrounding communities, to have more spacious meeting places.
“A number of local and nearby community members were seeking a venue for larger functions to which they are disappointed because the Fieldhouse does not hold that many people,” said Baerwaldt.
Despite being a leaseholder of the Fieldhouse, LCA will be required to get approval from Rocky View County before plans can be finalized.
If there is approval of the expansion, then there will be more room for more events.
