HINES,George Edward
May 28, 1920 – November 5, 2015

Born in St. John, NB, raised in Lethbridge, AB; worked briefly in the Crowsnest and the remainder of his life in Calgary, AB. We didn’t always agree on everything, Dad, but knowing that we were loved and that you knew that love was returned meant so much. From us to you Dad: daughter Georgia, son Mel, grandson Brett (Kelli), granddaughter Sara (Jodie), great granddaughters Brooklynn, Makenna, Brynn, Tegan and Chloe…..thank you. Survived also by sister-in-law Barb, niece Kathy and nephews Brad, Ted and families. Predeceased by his parents Harry and Georgina, brother Jim and former wife June. Goodbye and thanks to his Signature Park friends and staff, the staff at Swiss Chalet, Sunterra, Smitty’s, Rockyview Hospital and most recently Chinook Care Centre for your care, kindness and laughs.
“A Meaningful Life”
is not about being rich,
being popular, being highly
educated or being perfect.
It is about being real,
being humble, being able to
share ourselves and touch
the lives of others.
It is only then that we
could have a full,
happy and contented life.
Will miss our Flames/Stamps talks, Dad, but will cheer them on…..even more loudly now. Dad’s attitude, sometimes to a fault, was that if you couldn’t give 110%, then don’t do it. Once he realized that his body could no longer do that, he was done. He also knew how lucky he was to have the family, friends and health that he did have for 95½ years. Dad’s quote for many years was “don’t take any wooden nickels”, but lately was simply…..”anyway”, meaning he had ended a discussion or a visit. So, Dad…..”anyway” from all of us…..love you, miss you…..in our hearts always. Our Dad/Grandpa was cremated November 9, 2015. There will be a family gathering to scatter his ashes in the mountains at a future date. If you wish, please make donations to the Food Bank, homeless shelter or charity of choice. Condolences may be left at www.mountainviewmemorial.ca.
