The annual Gleichen Rodeo is set to kick up the dust this weekend, showcasing riders as they try to conquer horses and bulls in pursuit of the top prizes.
Rodeo President Jeff Yule expects 330-340 contestants to come and participate in what should be a great weekend of rodeo Aug. 21-22.
Yule added he is hopeful that there will be a good crowd on hand to cheer on the rodeo riders so everyone can enjoy an ‘Ole Fashion Rodeo.’
“Just a good turnout … no gimmicks or nothing, just rodeo,” said Yule.
The events that will take place are bareback, saddle bronco riding, bull riding, junior bull riding and steer riding.
Yule thinks there is no clear favourite in this year’s rodeo, but said whoever comes and competes will have a chance.
“It’s hard to say, I don’t know how hard they’re going to compete,” said Yule.
This year’s events already looks promising with what Yule said are a couple of good saddle bronco horses, bareback horses and bulls.
The rodeo will take place at the Gleichen Rodeo Grounds on Aug. 21 starting at 6 p.m. and Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. Admission is just $10.
The Gleichen Fall Fair will also be taking place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 22 prior to the rodeo with festivities for young and old, and will kick off with a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by the parade at 10 a.m.
There will also be a bench show and a Steel on Wheels Show n’ Shine starting at 9 a.m., while a trade fair, craft sales and kids carnival will be ongoing all day.
