Minister of State Finance Kevin Sorenson in partnership with Brad Woodside, president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), along with the Mayor of Fredericton, N.B. a Green Municipal Fund Grant to Wheatland County on Feb. 17.
The grant was for a total $84,250 in support of Wheatland County’s feasibility report that was performed in Rosebud.
A study was conducted in Wheatland County to examine the treatment for irrigation and greenhouse consumption in all some local townships.
“We worked with an organization called Sustainability Resources Ltd. (SRL), (they) made an application back last year. We received the funds and the project is now completed,” said Alan Parkin, Wheatland County Chief Administrative Officer.
“The project was a feasibility study for environmental waste treatment process. It is feasible to put a water treatment facility in Rosebud.”
Minister Sorenson was quite pleased with the announcement of the project, as this day could not have come soon enough for the county.
“Our Government is helping municipalities across the country to achieve their goal of a cleaner and healthier environment for their citizens through the Green Municipal Fund,” he said in a press release.
“Today’s announcement is another example of how our government- in partnership with the FCM- is helping communities like Wheatland County build a greener future for our citizens.”
Wheatland County will now be able to share their knowledge of this process with other communities who are facing the same difficulties.
“This is an important opportunity to explore solutions for small rural communities seeking to accelerate economic development and infrastructure challenges,” said Wheatland Reeve Glenn Koester in a press release.
