The well-known Cantare Children’s Choir showcased their talent for Brentwood Elementary students on May 21, as part of their annual spring tour.
The children, aged 8 to 11 years, are part of an ensemble of the choir called Contiga. While the choir had already performed in Langdon before singing at Brentwood Elementary, some Strathmore students had the chance to come to the front and join in for the singing of Donkey Riding.
“I was thrilled to have Cantare come and present a concert at Brentwood,” said Carolyn Steeves, the Brentwood Elementary music teacher. “My four children all sang in Cantare and former Brentwood students sang in the Alberta Children’s Choir when Catherine Glaser-Climie was the conductor. Cantare is an exemplary choral program in Calgary, and it was a pleasure to have them come and share their music with our students.”
In 1997, Catherine Glaser-Climie founded the choir, to fill a void by offering a community-based choir for children in the city. Children attending schools all over Calgary take part in the choir, which just completed its 18th season.
Despite focusing on their own concerts, the choir also occasionally works together with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Calgary Opera.
“We are so thrilled to be here at Brentwood School,” said Catherine Glaser-Climie the founder and artistic director of the Cantare Children’s Choir. “We know of the exceptional music program that happens here. It is a thrill for us to be here and sing for an audience of children who can appreciate the level of excellence that our children present.”
The choir went on to perform at Trochu, before finishing their tour in Camrose.
