After a few car enthusiasts grew tired of missing shows dedicated to their interests in surrounding areas, the individuals put their heads together and launched the Gearheads Custom Classic Car and Truck show that is celebrating its fifth anniversary on the weekend.
With an increase in devotees and community members over the years, Rosebud will once again act as host to vintage exemplars such as a 69 Mercury Convertible, a 94 SS Impala, and a 74 Ford pick-up composed of stages of hot-rod and restoration.
Attracting individuals from all over Alberta and as far-reaching as the United States, this year’s event is expected to be another fun-filled celebration.
“We’re kind of a well-kept secret,” said Ed Sonmor, owner of the High Eagle RV Resort and sponsor of the show.
“We developed this years ago, and it’s just growing in leaps and bounds. It’s a nice Sunday afternoon, it builds a little buzz for the Rosebud community, and it’s good for our park.”
The day will feature anywhere from 40 to 75 classic cars and performances by the Cat Country Cougar Hunters, who will rock the stage starting at noon. The event also includes a barbeque and secured numerous door prizes from sponsors.
“We bring it back because it’s fun, people like it, and a lot of different guys come back because they built a new car last year and they want to show it off,” said Sonmor. “We’re all car guys over here and we can’t get out of our resort to go to these shows because they’re on weekends. So five years ago we decided to bring a show here and had tremendous success, so we just keep on keeping on.”
The Gearheads Custom Classic Car and Truck show is taking place on July 19 at the High Eagle RV Park in Rosebud from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Cars register at noon and admission costs $10 for cars, and $5 for the general public. For more information contact Jeanne Sonmor at 403.677.2577.
