For the sixth year in a row, the Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society (AIMS) in Strathmore is hosting their annual run but decided to change things up a little bit.
This year the run has been called the Chinook Financial Tight and Bright Family Run and will take place on August 22.
“We wanted to brighten it up a bit this year,” said Bev Roppel, the program manager for Strathmore AIMS.
“What we are focusing more on is sunshine, being bright and out there, so people can see us.”
Participants will receive one of five different colour T-shirts with bright colours: yellow, orange, lime green, blue and pink. The event will consist of distances of 10 km, five km, or a 2 km option for participants under the age of 14, starting at Kinsmen Park and ending at Greys Lake.
The society attracted contributions from their main sponsors Chinook Financial and the Strathmore and District Agricultural Society, which contributed 75 rodeo tickets.
There were also smaller donations from other organizations and members of the community. AIMS is still looking for more runners to take part in the race, with a goal of 100 runners.
Roppel explained that the money raised from the run will help to support the society’s program and the individuals they help in the Strathmore area. AIMS helps to support adults with disabilities find employment, to contribute to a meaningful day in their lives.
For those interested in taking part in the event there are many ways to register. There will be late registration on the morning of the race, online registration at the Running Room or physical registration at the AIMS office. Entry is $35 per entrant, $30 for 2 km Kids Run, and $30 per entrant group rate by Aug. 14
