Wheatland County approved to issue an account-receivable credit to WADEMSA at the county council meeting on March 2.
The credit was a result of the county directing staff to bill WADEMSA for the maximum accounting fees that will be billed from the period of April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015 at a sum of $16,688.
“By resolution, the municipality would invoice WADEMSA for actual costs for accounting to a maximum of $16,688 for accounting services,” said Jim Laslo, General Manager of Agriculture at Wheatland County. “It ended up the fees were a lot more than that, so all that resolution did was credit the difference between the actual costs and the $16,688 to our books so WADEMSA only had to pay what council initially thought they should pay.”
The total increased substantially in the period from April 2014 to December 2014 to $26,631.25 and as a result the county had to invoice a difference of $9,943.26 to WADEMSA.
“It ended because there was some new reporting procedures and some new staff that had to learn these new procedures that accounted for more time that was needed and the increased cost to provide the service,” said Laslo.
These costs were only included in the 2014 budget.
