Three people were found dead after a house fire broke out on the Siksika Nation March 28. Cody Blackkettle, 28, Troy Pretty Young Man, 28, and Tiffany Panther Bone, 25, were identified as the three found in the home. The Gleichen RCMP, assisted by the Cluny and Siksika Nation Fire Departments, were called shortly after 7 a.m. on March 28 after neighbours reported seeing smoke coming from the windows of the home.
Fire investigators found the bodies while clearing the home after the blaze had been brought under control.
It’s believed that smoke inhalation was what killed the three victims, who were discovered in the bedrooms of the home, an area the flames had not reached.
The preliminary examination suggests that the fire started from inside, and did not appear to be suspicious. One thing that stood out to investigators was the fact that there were no working fire alarms in the home. A candlelight vigil was held on Sunday, March 29 to remember the three.
