The Alberta Youth Entrepreneur Camp is back for its 18th year. Applications are now being accepted from any youth ages 13 to 15 who have an interest in business.
“This is a great, free opportunity for youth ages 13 – 15 to attend a week-long summer camp that aims to provide valuable business training in an extremely fun environment. The camp runs from Sunday, August 17th through to Saturday, August 23,” said Carolyn McIntyre, CED assistant for Community Futures Wild Rose.
“Community Futures Wild Rose covers the cost of sending four individuals from our region. An added bonus is that campers who are registered in Career and Technical Studies (CTS) at school may receive extra CTS credit by attending.”
The Community Futures region covers Acme, Bassano, Beiseker, Carbon, Chestermere, Hussar, Irricana, Kathryn, Langdon, Linden, Rockyford, Standard, Strathmore, Three Hills and Trochu.
Sixty youth from Southern and Central Alberta will attend the camp, which will once again be held at the Eagles Nest Ranch in Cypress Hills, Alberta.
The week-long camp combines the education of business training with a summer camp atmosphere. The campers will hear from guest speakers, and participate in workshops where they will learn the components of a good business plan, which includes marketing, advertising, cash flow and record keeping.
“Youth are put into business teams where they learn to incorporate an idea within a business plan, meet with suppliers and bankers, build a product or a service and on the final day of camp these youthful business ventures are open for business. Campers pay back their business loans and split their profits amongst their business team,” said McIntyre.
The camp isn’t all business though; the youth will also get a chance to participate in recreational activities and a verity of summer experiences throughout the week.
