Swim therapy

If you have an injury or have a person with special needs, come try a therapeutic session at the Strathmore Aquatic Centre.
The sessions allow for people to come and have a quiet hour to rehab in a comfortable environment. For the special needs person, it is a time where they can stay active with supervision.
“It is available for anyone with special needs or rehab surgery but not a sprained ankle or any small things like that,” said Brenda Condon, assistant manager of the pool. “What we have done because the numbers have been low for it, is combined it with a senior adult swim so there are more people in the pool.”
The program does not have swimming instructors but it’s a session for quiet time or relaxation.
“It’s just a time where people can come in and it is a quieter time,” said Condon. “They don’t have to worry about people maybe knocking them over or splashing them and they can get that time they need to work those muscles that need to be worked.”
The Aquatic Centre received feedback from the community that they really needed this program to happen.
The first session is Sept. 26 between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. For more dates and times contact the Strathmore Aquatic Centre at 403-934-3325.
