Strathmore’s cool, free App!

The weather is getting warmer out there and knowing Alberta, there is no telling when it will turn, so it’s time to take advantage. One of the many ways of making the most of it is to discover and trek Strathmore’s paths, and the S’more Paths app will help you do just that.
My name is Parker Petruska. I am a Grade 12 student at Strathmore High School and I am a member of SAY (Strathmore Assembly of Youth), the creators of the S’more Paths app.
SAY is the voice of youth in Strathmore. We work closely with town council to identify issues related to youth and try to provide creative solutions for them.
SAY developed this app to get people off the couch, become more active, and to help people discover Strathmore’s paths. Along with numerous generous donations, a lot of cotton candy was painstakingly made to fundraise the cost of this app. This means the app is free to download!
Some of the excellent features in the app are the tracking of distance, speed and time spent and that it is specific to our community, which is not found on any other apps. This is also great for newcomers to Strathmore. I personally mapped out the Sagewood Circle path. Inclusion of wheelchair-accessible paths was essential for the app, because it’s just as important for people such as me (I’m confined to a wheelchair) to enjoy the outdoors, and, quite frankly, it just makes sense.
Over the next few weeks I will be interviewing users of the app, sharing their thoughts and how they use this great app, and getting the word out that S’more Paths is free to download on Apple devices. FYI: remember to close the app when finished because it drains battery life. Be sure to look out for Part 2!
