A break-in occurred at Strathmore Pawn and Collectables on Lakeside Avenue in downtown Strathmore on Nov. 6, in the early morning hours.
Tanya Andersen, joint owner of the business, said it was determined the culprits came in and, within three minutes, swept the shop of antique jewelry and military medals and artefacts and then they left.
“Police responded quickly and we were thankful for that,” said Andersen. “They often don’t get enough credit for the work they do.”
She said she has insurance, but thinks the value of all the articles taken will be substantial. She doesn’t think insurance will cover one tenth of the value of the articles taken.
“It could have been worse. Nobody was hurt. The store wasn’t smashed up or burnt down, you have to look at the positive,” said Andersen.
The store already has alarms and surveillance video, which the RCMP are reviewing.
In hindsight, she doesn’t think they will place reinforcing bars on the windows. She said it gives a bad image to the business and town.
Andersen said she thinks if thieves want to gain entry, they will find a way in.
The Strathmore Pawn and Collectables is a family business and they hope customers will continue their patronage in spite of the incident. She is confident the RCMP will locate suspects involved.
