The Strathmore Civic Centre was filled to the brim with Lions on Saturday, March 8 to celebrate their 75th Charter Night.
Over 200 Lions and guests enjoyed a fantastic catered prime rib dinner with all the fixings. The Master of Ceremonies Lion George Pinchbeck announced that over 20 fellow Lions Clubs were represented. International Director Dave Hajny was their guest speaker for the evening.
Strathmore Mayor Michael Ell gave greeting on behalf of town council. He expressed thanks and congratulations for the 75 years of projects and services to the villages and the Town of Strathmore.
Local MLA Jason Hale gave greeting from the province and later on in the evening participated in the entertainment. Hale ended up to be a very gracious straight man for one of the star performers from The Snow Circus.
The half-time show was performed by two artists who captured their audience with magic, circus and sideshow acts. Many different types of acts were performed such as juggling knives, balancing acts, walking barefoot on glass, and contortionism, and the finale was fire eating. It was very entertaining and a different type of entertainment for a celebration of this sort.
The evening was wrapped up by a short history of our club given by Greg Helfrich, who just gave some highlights of their proud history. This was followed up by a group picture as the evening concluded.
The Lions next main event will be their auction held on April 5. This is their main fundraiser for the year. For more information please go to www.strathmorelions.ca.
