The 2014 Annual Talent Showcase at Standard School happened March 24 for a packed gymnasium, after having been postponed from the previous week due to the snow storm. The graduating class of 2014 organized the event as a fundraiser under the direction of Crystal Cavanagh and Shelby Gregory.
Students were encouraged to showcase art work as well as musical performances (both vocal and instrumental), highland dancing, cheerleading, a karate demonstration and a brother comedy duo.
A couple of highlights of the evening included kindergarten student Quinton Mavor singing country song “My Heart has a History,” and a stand-up comedy routine by brothers Jacob and Benjamin VanDresar.
The evening wrapped up with Grade 12 student Lindsay Goebel singing “Landslide,” accompanied by Nick Gerristsen on acoustic guitar. Goebel has grown up singing in the community and will be graduating in June.
The graduating class held a successful bake sale and silent auction throughout the evening. Upcoming events to look forward to at Standard School include their Elementary Spring Concert and Elementary Production in June.
