County snow removal crews, along with their urban counterparts, are trying to find ways to keep up with steady snowfalls.
“There is a lot of snow and drifts out there,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Manager Dave Churchill. “Ridges are starting to get quite large and there are some concerns about fence breakage.”
Churchill stated they had one plow truck down for repair and residents were calling for snow removal schedules. Churchill clarified if the dozers are pushing snow against fences and there is breakage, the fences will be repaired as soon as possible, after the snow melts. However, normal snow removal along the roads will not be considered county responsibility as some landowners have fences built too close to roadways.
Councillor Ben Armstrong commented that residents should be aware that crews area trying to remove snow as far as possible off roadways, so that subsequent snow won`t build up and create blockages and delays. There had been some complaints that driveway accesses had been blocked. Churchill said that complaints would be investigated and they may have to look at each situation individually. The guidelines for county snow removal are outlined on the website and independent contractors’ numbers are posted there if people need help removing snow from their property roadways.
