Strathmore bull rider, Scott Schiffner, had an impressive showing at the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) in Edmonton from Nov 5-9.
He was able to collect total earnings of $23,618.88 in six rides, thanks to a score of 87.75 on the last day.
He admits that he could have had better execution on the bull, but was happy with the results nonetheless.
“You know honestly this year I didn’t do as good as I should have. I won two rounds on Thursday and Sunday night, but through-and-through that was the only two I stayed on, so I wasn’t super impressed with how I performed,” said Schiffner. “It was one of them things – I drew some pretty good bulls that I messed up on, (and) a couple of them bulls I rode right to the whistle to win a lot money. I never quite got there and it was one of them things we expect to do better.”
Schiffner admits it was better to come away with something instead of nothing at the nation’s rodeo finals.
“Absolutely, that’s the biggest thing is coming up here and winning, and it can kind of make our year. It’s the biggest rodeo we go to all year in Canada and I’m pretty fortunate to win two rounds, but everybody here is up scouted for a Canadian title. If you don’t leave here with a title you should feel like you didn’t do what you’re supposed to do,” said Schiffner. “I salvaged my weekend for sure, but you can always do better. Nobody leaves here happy unless they’ve won all six rounds.”
He was really impressed with the quality of stock he was able to ride.
“As a whole, the stock was really good. Here in Canada people overlook it that we have some of the best buckin’ stock in the world,” said Schiffner.
Schiffner’s next rodeo to wrap up the season will be this weekend (Nov. 14-16) for the Pro Bull Rodeo (PBR) finals in Saskatoon.
