Despite the possibility of rain, students from Holy Cross Collegiate (HCC) came together to play one last performance of some more popular and contemporary music for family, friends and staff.
The Grade 7s played: The Best of Glee, The Best of Queen and Mission Impossible.
The Grade 8/9S played: Eye of the Tiger and Cartoon Symphony.
The HS Band played: Metal, The Best of Abba and Michael Jackson Hit Mix.
The Drumline played: Crazy Train, Tortuga and Twinkle Time.
The HS African Drumming played: Soko and Saa as well as an original composition.
The 7 African Drumming played: Three original compositions!
This was a very eventful and exciting year for the music program at HCC.
The groups participated in a wide variety of activities including: Camp Chestermere, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts, Clinics at the University of Lethbridge, Day of Percussion at the University of Lethbridge, our three concerts and of course Festival! The Drumline and HS African Drumming classes both competed in the Calgary Kiwanis Festival and achievegold and bronze! The bands competed in the Alberta Band Association Festival in Red Deer and came home with the highest scores we have received so far! All three bands achieved Excellence and the Grade 7 Band got an Excellent +.
Music teacher Sarah Haughey says, “all of the students have worked extremely hard and I am very proud of them and their achievements!”
