Phone fraud scam

With the news surrounding all of the different ways people are trying to scam you out of your money, being aware and trusting your instincts that something’s not right is key in making sure your money stays in your pocket.
On Dec. 4 a resident told the Strathmore RCMP detachment of suspected fraudulent activity, and filed a complaint. The resident told RCMP a Mega Millions representative, from Washington, D.C., contacted them by phone.
The representative was instructing the resident to transfer a large sum of money, by a bank transfer, in order to claim their multi-million dollar prize. An investigation showed that there have been previous reports of alleged fraud involving the same company based in Las Vegas.
The Strathmore RCMP wants anyone who receives a call requesting money transfers, or personal information, including credit card numbers to be wary of making that type of transaction, and to contact Phone Busters at the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre toll free at 1-888-495-8501 or their local RCMP detachment.
