Sacred Heart Academy’s school council was pleased to welcome back One World Drumming to their school Jan. 6 to 10.
They had an instructor in the school all week teaching Grade 1-6 students all about African instruments and rhythms. Their students then showed off their djembe talents on Friday, Jan. 10 at the school wide assembly. Parents and grandparents filled the gym and were privileged to watch the kids come up in their particular grade configurations and see what they had been learning all week.
The kids responded well to the instruction from their djembe leader David Kovatch. As a boy David dreamed that when he grew up he would be a music teacher. As life happens David never stopped playing music but he did not become a music teacher. Well, not till now, anyways. Now David is teaching drumming and living out his dream – to be a music teacher. It was evident in the final assembly that Kovatch had the children captivated by the drumming as well as being in synch with one another and the audience together in their parts.
