The Hamlet of Nightingale celebrated their 100th year of being a community on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the hall.
Long-time resident 92-year-old Cy Putnam, who was born a quarter of a mile from his farm in a grainery, has enjoyed every minute of living in the community.
“I’ve lived here since 1923 with the exception of a few years at agricultural college and in the service – the rest of the time I spent here at Nightingale. I got to know the people here and enjoyed them and the country,” said Putnam. “I thought it became quite the community and I’m actually very pleased with the way things took place today and the new people moving in taking part.”
The community hall played a significant role in how the community was run.
“I think they’ve done a helluva good job. We started this hall in 1966 and new people took over and added on to it,” said Putnam.
He said that he cherished every moment in Nightingale.
“I can’t say that I’ve had any really bad times I guess other than losing friends. I guess growing up here and participating with the sports clubs.”
His favorite parts of the festivities were seeing some old originals and reliving memories with the ones he hasn’t seen in a long time.
