A Strathmore couple has the contender for the first baby of the New Year. Audrey Rachelle Gillies burst into the world at 6:55 a.m. on Jan. 1 on the way to the delivery ward at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC). Parents Kirstyn Hogan and Anthony Gillies weren’t expecting their first-born child to come so soon.
“I wasn’t expecting it though because she wasn’t due until the 13 of January,” said Hogan.
“It was a harrowing experience actually,” said Tracy Hogan, Kirsty’s mom.
“We ended up at the Strathmore hospital who put her (Kirsty) in an ambulance and she (Audrey) was just about born on the highway.”
Tracy said the ambulance driver considered stopping on the side of the highway for the delivery but then determined they could make it to the hospital, which they did, barely. Audrey was born just as she reached the third floor of the PLC, weighing in at 7lbs 6oz.
“I realized how much stuff I still needed because I thought I still had two weeks,” said Hogan.
“I’m tired and just trying to get the hang of things.”
