On June 28, just before 11 p.m. a pedestrian was hit by a truck travelling east bound on Range Rd 252A.
The driver of the truck, a 37-year-old male, is said to have struck the pedestrian, 21, and then abruptly spun around and fled the scene going into the north ditch between the Range Road and Hwy #1, which runs parallel to it. In the rush to leave the scene, the vehicle also hit a power pole on the driver’s side, leaving behind broken parts by the pole.
The driver then travelled eastbound in the ditch before returning to the roadway. Witnesses described the vehicle as a white, four-door truck with a drilling company name and logo on the door.
The victim was sent to Foothills Hospital in Calgary with serious injuries on Saturday night, but was released on Sunday.
At approximately 10 a.m. on June 29, the male driver, who is from Strathmore, turned himself in to the Strathmore RCMP detachment. Charges of dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident are pending.
The vehicle has been seized for evidence purposes. The name of the 37-year-old male has not been released.
