Becky Stone, owner of Pranava Yoga, wants the opinion of the town for her new Lunch Hour Yoga. The classes began at the beginning of April – running Mondays and Fridays from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. – but Stone wants to make sure that time works best for potential yogis.
“We’re looking to offer a mid-day yoga break for those who are working. It’s a great way to spend your lunch hour,” Stone said. “We’re trying to get feedback from the community about what their needs might be.”
It will depend on the flexibility of her instructors, and if her studio is available, but Stone wants to have a schedule that works for lunch come June.
No matter what your occupation is, yoga can assist to make you more comfortable throughout your day, and even into your week.
“Physically, being seated for an extended amount of time tends to shorten hamstrings and tighten up hips. Backs can become really stiff too. If you’re working at a desk, on a computer, shoulders and necks get ridiculous tight. If you’re standing on your feet all the time, your feet get sore,” Stone said. “Finding a mid-day break, taking a few deep breaths, and gaining some tools that you’ll be able to take back to your work day – it’s an amazing opportunity to balance yourself.”
Practicing yoga once a day eliminates stress, which causes inflammation in the body, leading to disease, said Stone.
“Mentally and emotionally, because we get tense under a lot of pressure – maybe trouble with our coworkers or whatever it is – it effects you very, very physically,” she said.
Pranava also has showers on site for those who want to tidy up before returning to work. Those interested are encouraged to complete a survey for Lunch Hour Yoga times at www.pranavayoga.ca, or to e-mail their opinion to info@pranavayoga.ca — and will be given a free yoga class pass for their help.
