A warm welcome met guests at the Strathmore Golf Club, when the Strathmore Lions celebrated their community open house wine and cheese party on Nov. 6.
“This is the second year we have held this open house,” said Strathmore Lions President Greg Helfrich. “It is our way to say thank you to the community.”
There was a video and print showcase of photography by club photographer Don Geiger, depictions of various projects that the Strathmore Lions have supported over the years and plaques on display indicating their fine work in the community.
One project they are considering in the future is constructing a gazebo or playground equipment for the green space behind Grand Pointe Estates on the east side of Strathmore.
A surprise award was given to Robert and Coleen Cardiff for their work in membership and sponsorship drives.
Overall, club members mentioned there was a better turnout this year and others indicated they really enjoyed the evening.
Shelley Hall was the spokesperson and committee organizer.
“The Strathmore Lions Club would like to thank the community for their support over the past 76 years,” said Hall. “We appreciate the time and dedication the volunteers gave us throughout those many years. Without the donations and support of the community we would not be able to provide our services as thoroughly as we do year after, year.”
The Strathmore Lions are always looking for new members. If anyone is interested they meet the first and third Thursdays in the Chuck Mercer Room at the Strathmore Civic Centre (120 Brent Blvd., Strathmore). Inquiries can be directed via e-mail to (lions.president@strathmorelions.ca).
