While at the Economic Developers Conference in April, Chief Administrative Officer for the town Dwight Stanford won $500 to use in the community. Taking from the conference and the competition that helped his table win money, Stanford presented the idea of hosting ‘Let’s Make a Pitch’ event for June 19.
The event will see non-profit community organizations present ideas to three judges about ways they could enhance and beautify the Town of Strathmore. The judges will then select a winning proposal and group, who will be awarded funds to carry out their project.
“We want them to come forward with ideas on how we can beautify Strathmore. Environmentally to make the community more beautiful and make the town prosper,” said Stanford.
The three judges are Brett W. Wilson, Ron Renaud and Beerd Beekman.
“I would like to see 100 people show up to watch and listen and hear the presentations,” said Stanford.
There will be a limit of 14 groups allowed to pitch their ideas, so anyone interested is encouraged to hurry and fill out an application for pre-screening to determine that the project would be doable.
Businesses and community members are also being given an opportunity to help out. Any business or individual who donates $100 or more for town beautification will have their name on the program and will be given a tax receipt.
Let’s Make A Pitch will take place June 19 at the Civic Centre. Groups presenting will have seats at the front near the stage and one representative from each group will be asked to speak for a total of two minutes. Judges will then have two minutes to ask the presenters questions.
The evening will begin at 7 p.m. Council also requested a spring open house, so the two will be combined to help create a larger event. Donations for the Wheatland Food Bank will be accepted at the door, and the event is free to attend.
