Friday Night Laughs is coming back for a second time this May 30. The night is hosted by the Youth Club of Strathmore and is one of the two major fundraisers the club hopes to do each year.
“It was a big success, lots of people had lots of fun,” said Shannon Zieman, program director for the club.
“If it goes well again this year we would like to have it be (annual). We would like to look at doing two annual fundraisers, so that would be our New Year’s Eve Gala and our Friday Night Laughs.”
The Yuk Yuk’s comedians coming to Strathmore this time around are Scott Dumas and Jasen Fredrickson. Dumas began his comedic career after leaving the financial world. In 1999 he entered the Yuk Yuk’s Alberta’s search for the funniest new comic and made it to the finals. Shortly after that he was showcased on Just for Laughs and his career has been growing ever since.
Fredrickson was the winner of Calgary’s 2002 Funniest New Comedian competition, quickly becoming a local favourite. His bio states that since he was born in the ‘70s, raised in the ‘80s and married with children in the 2000s he has a peculiar stance on what is normal, and his friendly demeanor quickly makes you comfortable to ‘hitch a ride on his happy fun bus for an exhilarating ride down a bent and twisted highway of the absurd.’
Friday Night Laughs will be held at the Civic Centre on May 30. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. This year there won’t be a silent auction, but there will be door prizes and a 50/50 draw. Last year the night sold out quickly, so Zieman suggests ordering your tickets early. The club will reserve a table of eight, but to do so all eight tickets must be purchased at once.
Tickets are $25/person and can be purchased by calling the Youth Club of Strathmore at 403-934-4918, or by calling the Strathmore FCSS office at 403-934-9090.
