Peacefully, with her children by her side, Shirley passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the age of 81 years after an eight year battle with cancer.
Born in Radville, Shirley moved to Calgary with her husband Rene and brother-in-law Lawrence (Evelyn) in 1956. She raised three children along with many foster children. She was an Aunt at large. She began a career with PPG until retiring to return to Radville to care for her mom. Moving back to Strathmore, she spent her retirement traveling, crafting, playing cards, and enjoying her family.
Shirley lived life to the fullest, and her independence, strength, and stubbornness will be remembered and cherished by all who were lucky enough to know and love her.
She is survived by her children Bonnie (Dennis), Mark (Nancy), Harvey (Sasha) and Cheryl; grandchildren Amren, Steven, Chris, Denny, Dustin, Jessica, Kayla, Alex, Myles, Taralyn and Shawna; great-granddaughter Harper; brothers John, Wilf, Jim and Steve; sisters Mary, Jean and Florine. She was predeceased by her three babies, grandson JP and sister Julia.
A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. At Shirley’s request please wear yellow. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
