Love Laugh Learn Equine Assisted Learning Centre, owned by Jody Buckle, is bringing Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) to Strathmore on June 20.
Part one of the certification for the EAGALA model, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL), will be taught June 26-28.
EAP is a growing modality that incorporates horses for emotional growth and learning. Each session is taught in collaboration with a mental health professional and equine specialist. Participants will learn about themselves and others by participating in the activities and then processing their thoughts, beliefs, behaviours and patterns. Buckle is hosting EAGALA at her facility because it is a model that she believes in.
“One of the differences between EAGALA and other programs is that it is based on a team approach, based on a code of ethics,” said Buckle.
“EAGALA is an internationally recognized association and is currently practicing in 42 countries worldwide because of its effectiveness in dealing with trauma, addictions, depression, eating disorders, and PTSD. We also do corporate team building, leadership and relationship issues.”
Buckle herself is a certified equine specialist with EAGALA, and said one of the advantages to being certified is that she can be called on by a mental health professional that practices equine therapy because they know her history with the program.
“Another wonderful benefit to me personally and to my company, is that this model is recognized by the Mental Health Association and brings with it a level of professionalism and ethics that you can trust and be proud of,” said Buckle.
There is still plenty of time to register for the certification. It is $600 per level. Level 1 is taught June 26-28 and Level 2 will be Sept. 18-20. People can participate as a mental health professional or as an equine specialist. In order to take the Level 2 certification, participants need at least 6,000 hours of time and training with horses to qualify. For more information, or to register go to www.eagala.org
