Calgary Co-op broke ground on their new home, located east of the Ranch Market, on June 23. Mayor Michael Ell, along with representatives from Co-op, the Town of Strathmore and Elan Construction participated in the ceremony.
“Let’s celebrate what’s to come for the Strathmore community,” said Ken Woo, chief executive officer with Calgary Co-op in a press release.
“We’ve simply outgrown our current location and will use this opportunity to develop a convenient shopping destination that includes not only an improved food store, but also a new wine, spirits and beer location and a second gas bar location.”
“As a town we know that Co-op needs to be able to grow with our community. This new facility will allow them to do so,” said Ell in a press release.
Construction is set to being immediately on the 35,000 square foot store and will replace the existing location. Co-op is hoping to enter the new store in the summer of 2015, and the new gas bar is set to open shortly after.
