Musicians Saskia and Darrel are returning to Strathmore this April in an attempt to help us lose the winter blues. Strathmore is the first stop on the Cabin Fever Tour featuring Allen Christie and The Great Plains (Saskia and Darrel).
“We’re going to call it the Cabin Fever Tour because people are sick of the snow, and we want to cheer them up a little bit with some good old folk music,” said Saskia.
Christie has been touted as a modern day troubadour. It has been said he has perfected his addictive blend of roots, country and folk music to create a sound that is unmistakably Albertan.
Saskia and Darrel or the Great Plains, are known as the sweethearts of the prairies. They toured for a number of years with Gary Fjellgaard and Valdy. They are considered true Canadiana, offering songs rich with a bluegrass, folksy, Celtic flavour.
The duo love coming to Alberta and are excited to have Strathmore as the first stop of the new tour.
“Love it, I love that southern Alberta attitude. I love the people there, they’re friendly they’re kind. We have always really enjoyed it,” said Saskia.
“We’ve got some new songs, some new Alberta songs. We’re working on a new album that we won’t have ready to take with us but we’re going to give people some sneak previews from that. It’ll be lively, it’ll be fun.”
The show is going to be April 5 at the Legion. There is the option of dinner and the concert, with tickets available for $35, or just attending the concert for $15 per person. Tickets are available at the Legion (403-934-5119), or at Sweeny Todd Barbershop (403-983-3343).
