The Alberta Summer Games are upon us – running July 24-27 in Airdrie – and four players from the Strathmore Spartans Football Association will be representing the community.
The four boys, Misi Varga, Garrett Gatto, Kobe Halloway and Chevy Winnipeg are part of Team Alberta Zone 2.
“We couldn’t be more proud,” says Dahrlyne Knaus, proud mom of Garrett Gatto.
This is a great accomplishment as well as a huge honour, said Knaus. It not only speaks volumes of the talent and commitment of these athletes, but of what a great organization the Strathmore Spartans Football Association is.
“The coaching staff is extremely dedicated as is the entire Football Association,” said Knaus.
Because of their field play in the 2013 season, the boys were invited to try out for Team Alberta. Only after eight intense practices did they find out they had made the team.
“When we received the emails that our athletes made the team it was, like winning the lottery,” said Knaus, who continued on to say they have been working very hard at each and every practice and are learning so much.
The boys will come into the 2014 season stronger and better players as a result of this opportunity. All four of them realize what an incredible opportunity they have earned; they are grateful for it and are proud to be representing the Strathmore Spartans Football Association.
If you are taking in any of the Alberta Summer Games in Airdrie on July 24-27 be sure to stop by and cheer on Zone 2. Their first game is Friday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. against Zone 7 at the East Lake Field.
