Terry Fox Run still ago

When Raylene Sedley moved to Strathmore last month and found out that the town’s Terry Fox Run may be cancelled, she jumped at the opportunity to take the reigns.
“I’m committed to the Terry Fox Foundation, I feel like I want to help, I’ve done it in previous places that I’ve lived,” said Sedley, who also organized the run in Canora, Sask. “I saw that it was going to be gone from town and I was like, ‘oh, we can’t let that happen.’”
The 16th annual event will thus go on as planned, with hopes to raise between $2,000 and $3,000 for cancer research. So far, the town has raised $46,000 from previous years’ runs.
The race begins Sept.15, with registration opening at 11:30 a.m. at the Strathmore Curling Rink, in front of the tennis courts. The opening ceremonies will commence at 12:30 p.m., followed by a warm-up with Target Fitness fifteen minutes later. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., participants can run, walk, or ride the 5 km route, or the double 10 km route around Grey Lake.
Face painting, free refreshments and snacks, and prize draws for all competitors will be at the finish line.
“It’s just something that I’ve grown up with, I’ve always been involved in it since I was in school, and kind of always stuck with it. It’s just been one of the fundraisers that I’ve always supported,” said Sedley. “It’s a good way for me to meet some people in the community as well.”
Posters and lawn signs will be visible around the community leading up to race day; there will be 15 local businesses with pledge sheets available for participants, or they may download one at terryfox.org.
Anyone interested in volunteering on race day (registration tables, water stations, cross walks), donating items for draw prizes, placing signs on their front lawn, or contributing in any other way, please email Raylene Sedley at sedley9@shaw.ca.
