Siksika man killed in hit and run accident

On Jan. 1 Gleichen RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run at approximately 8:30 a.m. A 19-year-old Siksika man, Reyd Nevin Rabbit Carrier was found deceased in a ditch on HWY 901, about three kilometres west of HWY 547. It is believed he had been struck by what is believed to be a 2010 to 2013 Chevrolet Equinox.
The vehicle, colour currently unknown, will have significant damage to the lower front end, mostly on the passenger side of the vehicle. No new information has been released at this time.
“We’ve been actively following tips from the public,” Corp. Eiler with the Gleichen RCMP.
The Gleichen RCMP are asking anyone traveling on highway 901 on Siksika Nation between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to contact the detachment at 403-734-3056.
Gleichen RCMP along with RCMP Integrated Traffic Services and RCMP Collision Analyst were investigating the case.
On Jan. 9 Gleichen RCMP reported an arrest in the case. A 28-year-old from Siksika Nation has been charged with Impaired Driving Causing Death 255(3), Criminal Negligence Causing Death 220(b), and Fail to Remain at scene of collision 252.
The driver was returning home from a New Year’s Eve party when she allegedly struck and killed Rabbit Carrier. She is to appear in Siksika Provincial Court on Jan. 17.
