The Standard Lionettes club held their annual Ladies Night Out in style again this year with the theme “A Night at the Movies”.
In past years the Lionettes have held theme nights for their annual event like weddings, pyjamas and pearls, and Hawaiian luaus. This year was no different in that ‘A Night at the Movies’ was left up to the interpretation of the guest.
A red carpet was rolled out in front of Standard’s new community hall and a sign that read the movie times in the theatre inside. Walking inside one encountered everything from people dressed up as characters from favourite movies like Edward Scissorhands (a little on the creepy side), fantastically coloured saris worn by the Bollywood group of ladies, fembots from Austin Powers and even ladies dressed up like popcorn and coke.
Yvonne Way, president of the local club, said, “The Lionettes Ladies Night Out was a huge success. The time and ingenuity that went in to the costumes for our ‘Night at the Movies’ theme was tremendous! Everyone looked fabulous! Our new hall was a delight to entertain in! Thank you to the Lions who once again served beverages, they always taste better when a guy serves them.”
The big raffle winners of the evening were Sue Somerville who won a $500 gift card to Checkmate Shoes, Elaina Geeraert who won a $500 gift card to Cross Iron Mills, Janice Jensen who won a $1,500 topaz necklace and Suzette Lafreniere who won a pair of diamond hoop earrings worth $2,700.
