Trying to find something to do nearby for New Year’s Eve has been a challenge in the past for many people in town. There are the bars, or friend’s houses, but not really many other options.
This year the Youth Club of Strathmore is bringing what they will hope be a new tradition.
The club will be hosting a New Year’s Eve Gala at the Civic Centre.
“We’re hoping that this will become our once a year major fundraiser so that we’re not having to do a bunch of smaller fundraisers throughout the year,” said Shannon Zieman, director of the Youth Club of Strathmore.
“We find that there’s nothing really organized other than maybe bar activities on New Year’s Eve. We thought it was one event we could look at that was something new that wasn’t duplicating another fundraiser.”
Tickets are on sale for $75, which may seem steep but you get a lot for your money. First off there’s the chance to dress up, which is enough incentive for almost any woman. There will also be appetizers, a prime rib dinner, desserts, a midnight lunch, a photo booth, free champagne at midnight and of course party favours. The Al Barrett Band will also be the entertainment for the evening.
““They are getting quite a bit for $75, and they don’t have to drive to Calgary,” said Zieman.
“We’re hoping it is a fun, but classy event to start as a yearly event.”
There will be door prizes, raffles and items up for auction including an autographed Calgary Stampeders jersey and Calgary Hitmen tickets.
There is also a chance to win through an early bird draw; the prize is to be announced but the deadline to get your name in is Nov. 30.
Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Youth Club of Strathmore at 403-934-4918 or by calling Strathmore FCSS at 403-934-9090.
