The family of Val Holtan says goodbye to a gentle and loved soul.  Val passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the age of 96 years.   Born Valborg Matilda Louise Seppala in Northern Alberta, Val was the niece of Leonard Seppala, a dog sled driver known for his heroic work in the early 20th century in Alaska.  Val worked as a nurse at the Ponoka Hospital in her early years but settled with her husband Harold in the town of Gleichen in 1957.  Gleichen was her home until 2005.  She was passionate about gardening, loved good conversation and a cup of coffee with her friends and never shied away from a game of crib.  Val was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2006.  She is survived by her daughter Patricia Lee and husband Cam McGillivray; her son Stuart Ross and wife Connie Ann; and her granddaughter Kali Nicole, all of Calgary.  As per Val’s wishes no funeral services will be held.  The family will be having a day of memory for her in the future.  To send condolences, please visit www.wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.
