Highway accident leaves one man seriously wounded

Close to 12 Midnight on Wednesday, July 10 Strathmore RCMP responded to a call of a vehicle travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1.
“The information that we received was that there was a vehicle travelling the wrong way down the highway, and we responded. While we were responding we were advised that a collision had occurred,” said. Cpl. Chris Hrynyk.
A Ford F-150 was allegedly travelling the wrong way down the highway when it is said the vehicle collided with a Dodge Caravan. The driver of the Caravan sustained serious, potentially life threatening injuries and had to be transferred to the hospital via STARS Air Ambulance.
On July 12 the Strathmore RCMP charged 46-year-old Roger Rotariu from Strathmore with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, having a blood alcohol level over the legal limit causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
The driver of the Caravan, A 36-year-old male whose name has not been released, has been stabilized in hospital. He has suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Rotariu is set to appear in Strathmore provincial court on Aug. 20.
