Granting wishes through auctions

The Strathmore branch of the Children’s Wish Foundation is holding their annual silent auction from Sept. 27 to Oct. 11 at 12 noon at Chinook Credit Union. This is the eighth auction held, and to date over $18,000 has been raised.
There are approximately 50 items up for auction, including things from the Aquatic Centre, Best Western, Curves, the Strathmore Station, Strahmore’s Florist, Kims CafĂ© and much more. Last year the auction raised just over $2,500. If they can do that again this year, it will bring the amount raised to over $20,000, which is equal to granting two wishes.
“That’s very exciting. The average cost of a wish is about $10,000. There’s actually quite a number of kids in this area, Strathmore and area who have received wishes,” said Claudia Littlefair with the Strathmore Children’s Wish Foundation.
The money is sent to the provincial office and is used as needed and when needed.
“I think it is a really good way that we can support Children’s Wish locally,” said Larry Betts, branch manager for Chinook Credit Union.
“We can provide a space or a venue where Children’s Wish is able to raise some money and provide good things for kids that need it.”
Betts said Chinook Credit Union will continue to provide the space for the auction in years to come, as long as Littlefair and Children’s Wish need it.
