As the weather gradually begins to warm people are beginning to venture outside and are often looking for ways to get out of the house and enjoy the change.
Throughout the month of April the Strathmore Municipal Library has a few reasons to invite you out of your house and into theirs. Last year in April the library first introduced ‘Food for Fines’ to its patrons. This year the popular fundraiser is back and will run from April 1 to 30.
“This is sort of the library’s way and the community’s way to give back to the people in need. The way the ‘Food for Fines’ works is you come into the library during the month of April and for every one non-perishable food item that you donate we waive $2 of your overdue fines,” said Carmen Erison, assistant director of library services.
The program was a success with over 500 items being donated for the food bank. Erison said the goal this year is to collect 750 items to donate to the Wheatland County Food Bank.
Anyone can stop in the library throughout the month to donate, whether they have overdue fines to take care of or not, said Erison.
