Election time is here!

It’s election time, with voting day on Oct. 21, and that means signs will soon be adorning the roadways, doors will be knocked on and forums will be spoken at. It’s a time when we get to hear about all the great things people want to do for each of our respective communities.
Here in Strathmore there are 15 names to pay attention to. Some we know as they are hoping to return to council, and others are hoping for a chance to claim a spot in council chambers.
The candidates running for council in Strathmore are Robert Antonisse, Allan Auger; Rocky Blokland, Doug Clarke, Pat Fule, Mark Giesbrecht, Dave
Hamilton, Denise Peterson, John
Rempel, Bob
Sobol, Telisa
Tebbutt, Brad Walls and John Whieldon. For mayor we have the incumbent Steve Grajczyk, who is being challenged by Michael Ell.
The candidates will all be speaking at forums in town, like the one being held in the Town Council chambers on Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
In Wheatland County, there are only candidates running for election for Divisions 2 and 3. Ken Sauve is stepping away this year, and those hoping to take his place are: Colin Smith; Kevin G. Miller; Rex Harwood; Ian Mast; Russell Smith; and Jacki Kirk. For Division 3 Don Vander Velde is hoping to keep his chair on council, while Donna Biggar is hoping for the chance to be the new face of Division 3. Councillors Alice Booth, Berniece Bland, Brenda Ann Knight, Glenn Koester and Ben Armstrong are all running unopposed and have been acclaimed.
In Rockyford, current councillors Pam Seeley and Dixie O’Keefe did not put their names in for re-election. Incumbents Leah Smith, Gerald Katterhagen, and Darcy Burke are looking for re-election. Greg Baillie, Wane Beerling, Dalia Cheshire, Natalie Desantis and Jayne Koester have added their names to the ballot.
In Standard, your returning candidates are Ron Corbiell, Mark Clark, Adam Sommerfeldt, Alan Larsen. Martin Gauthier and Joe Pedersen are also running for a spot on council.
Golden Hills School Division is electing new members to its trustee’s board. In Ward 1 Colleen Annette Eyjolfson, Barry Kletke and Larry Maerz will be running in the election. In ward 2 David Price has been acclaimed, in Ward 3 Sherri Nielsen has also been acclaimed. In Ward 4, which is Strathmore, originally incumbent Larry Tucker was the only name put forward. The nomination process was extended and Joyce Bazant put her name forward. Both of them are also acclaimed. In Ward 5 Corey Fisher and Alan Larsen are both vying for the trustee spot.
The nominees for the village of Hussar were not released as of press time.
