Even though St. Patrick’s Day falls on March 17, everything at the Gleichen Arena was green on the weekend as the Skating Club held their annual Carnival “The Luck of the Irish” on March 23.
A fantastic performance from all the skaters from Gleichen and area graced the ice at the local area on Saturday. The opening number featured the Junior and Senior StarSkaters Keira Brown, Brianna French, Angel Lussier, Katie McCormack, Kayla Pietrobono, Morgan Rose, Stephanie Bolinger, Taylor Lassiter, Jourdyn Sammons, Rebekah Schalin, Korrie Stewart and Taylor Stewart. These girls set the stage and flavour of the entire program showing off their skating skills.
Erica Risseuw followed with a solo performance as their guest skater. The Lepachauns came next as Hannah Brown, Devon Laprise, Hailey Manca, Valley Manca, Chelsea Noseworthy and Hailey Permann, some of the youngest skaters in the club, performed.
The Disco Frogs came next in their shiny green costumes, Phoenix Big Snake, Sarah Laprise, Molly Maynard, Manney McArthur and Payton Yule.
The four-year-old group of animals skated on the ice in their animal costumes to the Irish Rover’s song “The Unicorn.” Even falling on the ice and getting up was cute because it was obvious they loved the attention and Jazmin Andruskievz, Gage Husband, Carson Kalbhen, Jaxon Permann, Maysa Schiffner and Emma Screpnek showed off their confidence on  the ice.
In between solo performances from the Junior and Senior StarSkaters performances, the last group of Irish Farmers Carter Brown, Charlotte Jackson, Hudson Laprise, Rowdy Maynard, Hardy McArthur, Jacob Screpnek and Taylor Yule came out with their green vests and green plaid hats.
Carrie Lassiter, long time coach for the Club (from Bassano), graced the ice at the Grand Finale and helped with the littlest skaters.
The club looks forward to the fall when the season starts up again, and thanked everyone, especially the parents for helping with the costuming and for their dedication to the program in Gleichen.
