55 Plus Games loan

A bylaw was created and given first reading at the Dec. 4 regular town council meeting to loan the Alberta 55 Plus Summer Games Committee $10,000. The committee will be receiving grant funding from the Games Administration in March or April to help offset the costs of hosting the games, but in the meantime they require funds to begin training, among other things. The bylaw was given first reading and will return to council for second and third reading at a later date.
Strathmore will be hosting the 2015 Summer Games, which will be July 16 to 19. Councillor Bob Sobol said the directors of the committee are establishing sub committees and chairs and they are looking for members. Anyone interested in becoming a part of one of the 19 committees is asked to contact Tracy Simpson at 403-934-4692.
Library concerns
Councillor Denise Peterson attended a Marigold Library System meeting and brought forward the concern that they believe the per capita grant is being based off of the 2010 population. The library said that is not accurate and because of it they are losing significant amounts of money. Peterson said the library had asked council to support them and write a letter to the Minister of Advanced Education and the Minister of Culture asking them to revisit the population numbers and requesting appropriate funding per capita based on the current population.
