Weekly drop-in soccer a fun success

Soccer registrations for teens and adults have declined. Strathmore Minor Soccer couldn’t field a team for an age group older than a U12 level and so a weekly drop-in soccer night has been organized to make up for the lack of other teams.
Strathmore Minor Soccer president Mark Shorhen is hosting these weekly drop-ins every Friday starting 6 p.m. in Parkwood Park.
“Some of the teens are [still playing] at 11 p.m.,” said Shorhen.
Shorhen said kids mostly want to play in the “summer months” and this gives all ages a chance to play soccer and not worry about the league or not making a team.
There is no commitment and players can come any week they want, or just one, and are provided soccer balls and allowed time to practice, play games and have a fun time.
