Have you ever wandered through the Calgary Zoo and wondered what goes on behind the scenes? On Monday Aug. 27 you can have a chance to find out. The Strathmore Municipal Library will be hosting a video conference in partnership with the Calgary Zoo.
“This one came up just last week and we jumped on it because it’s summer time still and we know this is something that kids love. The video conference itself is called Vet’s Eye View and it is going to be an interactive video conference live with the Calgary Zoo,” said Carmen Erison, assistant director of library services.
“Think of all the times when you travel through the Calgary Zoo and you see all the animals and you want to know what really goes on behind the scenes. This is going to be sort of a chance to do an interactive presentation with a Calgary Zoo veterinarian that’s going to talk about all the day to day animal care that goes on at the Zoo.
“Think about your own dog or cat and how you have to give them a pill. This is going to talk about how does that vet at the Zoo give a 100 or 200lb tiger a pill.”
The Strathmore Municipal Library has had conferencing capabilities for quite awhile through the RISE network. Erison said video conferencing is kind of neat because it really gives a chance for people and organizations to be able to connect to each other, and to have opportunities such as these with the Calgary Zoo.
There will be behind the scenes stories about caring for the zoo animals. There will also be pictures, x-rays and a bird’s eye view of what goes on behind the scenes at the zoo.
The conference will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the library at 85 Lakeside Blvd. Erison suggests arriving 15 minutes early to find a good seat.
