Strathmore won a secondary prize in the 2012 President’s Choice BBQTown contest after placing seventh out of the ten communities nominated to participate.
“I think [the competition] really brought everyone together,” said Jennifer Sawatzky, Municipal Clerk for the Town of Strathmore. “It brought us together to get something positive in town, (to) get out and know your neighbours and have some fun.
“We’re one out of ten communities in the entire country that actually won a prize. If you look at some of the communities that we were up against, Vancouver, Victoria, Whitehorse, for our small town to come in a winning position is awesome.”
“There’s no reason to be upset. We won something,” Sawatzky says, reminding residents who may be feeling disappointed that we should be “proud.”
Strathmore will be receiving a free community BBQ event for up to 2,000 people on the President’s Choice BBQTown Tour stop, which also includes face painting, stilt walkers, balloon animal artists and a fire juggler.
There will also be tons of President’s Choice food to sample including snacks, beverages and grill items which is to be served during five hours of entertainment. There will be a President’s Choice ice cream truck stocking a variety of their ice cream flavours.
“Winning a second place prize is by no means a disappointment,” said Sawatzky, and looking at the list of things our community will soon enjoy, it is impossible to disagree.
