Just For Kicks Soccer camp is just wrapping up for what might be its last season. The summer soccer program was the brainchild of brother and sister Michael and Jenni Annicchiarico after they realized there was a need for it in 2010.
Jenni Annicchiarico will be moving to Red Deer next month and isn’t sure if she will be able to bring the program back next year.
“I’m going to a year round school actually, I start in August. So for next year if I’m at the same school I don’t know if I’ll do it because I only get a month off,” said Jenni.
“Basically it just depends, hopefully I’ll be back because camp continues to grow and we have a lot of returning kids, so hopefully it will work out.”
When asked if Michael will host the camp, she wasn’t sure if he would have the time to organize the program with his other commitments as the athletic director for Holy Cross Collegiate.
During the past three years the program has grown, and many of the kids have returned each year. It’s been just as fun for the coaches as it has been for the kids.
“I’ve loved doing it. It’s great to see the kids returning and getting better. I know that the kids have a lot of fun with it, and we have a lot of support within the community,” said Jenni.
“Strathmore Minor Soccer and Mark Shorhen have helped us out a lot and let us use the soccer balls and the small nets and things like that. So it’s been a fantastic program, it’s easy for me to do because I just have to get out and coach everyday and the kids are great.”
Friday is the final day for the kids ages 11 to 14.
